OpLove is a non-profit organization run by photographers to give back to the military community. Families with a deploying military member are offered free portrait sessions by OpLove photographers.

I had an OpLove photography session at Palmer Park (one of my favorite Colorado Springs locations) on Saturday. Here are a few of my favorites:

This little girl loves her daddy so much. I love how she looks so much younger in this shot:

When I asked her to steal her daddy’s hat (after hearing that she loves to wear it), she corrected me. Apparently it is THEIR hat, not HIS hat.

He is equally popular with this little guy. I got a ton of great family pictures of everyone exploring the park.

I love portraits of a family walking. In this case, there was a lot of laughing and running.

And this is the inevitable outcome of running and being little. I told them that it was a good thing I have this photo for their lawsuit against me. ;)

I love this latest storyboard for one of my favorite families (the black border is just for posting here on the interwebs). You may remember the little ones from Drew’s newborn session this past fall. He is now five months old and a complete doll. And Leia is the cutest big sister in the world. It’s hard to say who enjoyed blowing bubbles in Drew’s face more–Drew or Leia!

My own doll baby suffered some misfortune while I was taking these pictures. He was at our neighbor’s house, and accidentally got his finger closed in the sliding glass door. It happened to be at just the right angle and just the right amount to amputate his fingertip (I’m not even being melodramatic–our discharge papers actually call it an “amputation”).

We had quite the lengthy ER wait, but he is on his way to recovery now–the specialist seems confident that it should grow back more or less on its own. He is very brave about it, and now that it is a little more protected in a splint I feel a lot better about his “I’m going to jump off furniture cause I’m doped up on pain killers and you feel too sorry for me to yell at me” antics. Were it not for the giant bandage you would never know the kid was injured!

Daniel contacted me about doing a session for him last month while he was in town visiting his kids.  I sent his prints off to him yesterday and remembered that I never posted my favorites here.

Justin has Autism, so I was thrilled with how many smiling portraits we got!  He cracked me up, too–there was something I kept saying over and over again every time I wanted him to smile…and by the end of the session, he would say it every time he felt that I might be about to say it.  It’s always funny when people mock the photographer!  (I tend to say “okay…one, two, three” before group shots…and you can bet a couple of drunk wedding guests have called me on it!)  :)
