intro-post

Real Photography closed in December 2014 and is no longer accepting clients.

Thank you for your support over the years! Please follow me at my new personal blog: www.needlesandapen.com to keep up with my latest photography, craft, and nursing school adventures.

As Nic watched me gush over a bride’s shoes a few months ago, he joked that I should do a “shoes 2009” blog post.  I’m totally doing it.  Our brides have great taste.  And when they turn their attention toward footwear?  Incredible things happen.  Here are a few of the shoes that have made my heart go pitter-patter this year.

The award for “taking away my designer shoe photographer virginity” goes to Amanda’s Christian Louboutin’s.  I came out of the getting ready room with them and whispered to Nic:  “Look!  RED SOLES!”  and like a good husband he pretended to understand the significance.   The award for best flats goes to Ashley’s metallic green ruffled flats.  The award for the shoe that shoe that got strangers to stop and comment goes to Bailey’s something blue Manolos.   And the “sexiest shoe” award goes to Leigh’s red heels.  She rocked them at her boudoir shoot and then hid them under her white dress for the wedding!

Happy New Year!  We are going to be celebrating all month long by sharing some of our favorites from the year.  To kick us off, it’s cake time!  (Can you tell I’m 8 months pregnant?!  :P)

The award for the most delicious cake of the year…heck, the DECADE, goes to Iliana and Freddy’s cake from The Market in Denver.  It’s a good thing we don’t live in Denver, because if we did, I’d NEVER lose this baby weight.

The award for the cake so pretty I cried a little when they cut into it goes to Jay and Ashley’s Martha Stewart inspired cake from Amy Bruntz (Amy’s Unique Cakes – 720-882-6546).

My favorite cake topper of the year belongs to Jaime and Aaron.  (Okay, this is a bit of a cheat…because it was MY cake topper, too!)  This cake topper blessed the cake of the happiest couple in all the world–my Nana and Poppa.  They married in 1946, when wedding luxuries were still in short supply.  My Nana had to bring her own sugar to her cake baker, and she told me that she had actually been very disappointed in her cake topper.  It’s “out of fashion” bride and groom from the 1930s was not what she had in mind.  But 60 years later we’re all a bit partial to it!  (I can’t find my picture of my Nana and Poppa on their wedding day–which means we’re missing out on a seriously cool “three generations of cake toppers” storyboard.)

The award for the best cake smashing moment goes to Carrie and Kevin.  (this will probably show up again in our “2009 outtakes” file–it’s just too good.)  The woman’s expression is PRICELESS!

The award for the most Ace of Cakes-iest cake goes to Kina and Wes’s C-17 groom’s cake from Boonzaaijer’s Dutch Bakery!

And last but not least, I think my favorite cake photo of the year is of Amanda and Steven’s cake from Stonebrook Manor.

I’m so excited to finally blog Kina and Wes’s wedding!  We love, love, LOVE shooting ceremonies at the Air Force Academy Chapel, and I knew I wanted to save their blog post so I could end the 2009 wedding posts with fireworks!

Kina is the tiniest person I’ve ever seen in real life.  Seriously.  I had to eat like 3 bags of swedish fish immediately after the wedding to console my pregnant self about the fact that even not pregnant, I’ll never look that good!

And how handsome is Wes in his mess dress?!

It never fails–the father/daughter moments are usually my favorite.

The USAFA chapel is so much fun to shoot in.  So much color!

Because we weren’t sure if a sparklers get-away would be possible after the reception, Wes and Kina rocked two “grand exits” (if you can’t do sparklers, the daylight exit from the ceremony is definitely your best photographic option).

I got a little arty after the ceremony.  I was feelin’ the love.  :)

The wedding party was awesome.  But with Air Force guys, it’s always going to be!

Nic found a little patch of light coming through that I could have made out with.  It was the perfect spot, and we could have kept Wes and Kina there all day.  Beautiful back light + long grass = my favorite spot.

I love it when a bride will sit down on the ground in her dress!

Another arty shot?!  I was kinda out of control.  :P

The reception at the Marriott was a blast–lots of good dancing.

And the guests were totally rocking the photo booth.

Ready for fireworks?

I have so many favorites from this wedding–you can see their album preview here.

Kina and Wes, thanks for being so patient and letting me end 2009 with fireworks!    Your wedding was gorgeous, and we loved spending the day with you!
