intro-post

Real Photography closed in December 2014 and is no longer accepting clients.

Thank you for your support over the years! Please follow me at my new personal blog: www.needlesandapen.com to keep up with my latest photography, craft, and nursing school adventures.

If Phil looks ever so slightly familiar (especially when he laughs), it’s because he is Meg‘s brother! I’m excited to be shooting brother/sister weddings this year, and we don’t have to wait long for Phil and Keenan’s–we’re photographing their wedding later this month!

Keenan and Phil are an adorable couple, and Keenan’s nervous laughter in the beginning of the shoot was totally precious. Brides often ask me how we get so many laughing pictures, and the answer is: my dumb one-liners half the time, and nervous laughter the other half. It can feel very odd to get all comfy/cozy with your fiance with two photographers watching…but nervous laughter is the silver lining of that initial shyness!

We went to Garden of the Gods for their shoot, since they were hoping to get some shots with their dog Willie:

Everyone gets over the shyness and pretty soon it’s like you’ve been kissing in front of two photographers forever:

They had liked how Meg and Matt incorporated their love of music into their engagement shoot, so they brought along their instruments. Fantastical–we love it when our couples bring props!!

Thanks for a great shoot, Keenan and Phil! We can’t wait for your wedding!

I wasn’t quite sure that Sheri’s maternity shoot would actually be a maternity session and not a newborn portrait shoot because it was scheduled for the day after her due date, but low and behold, Thursday evening had us photographing her belly.  (I hope this preview finds her with a baby instead of a belly!)

They have two excited helpers ready to be a big brother and sister!

I loved working with this sweet family and wish them a wonderful journey as they become a family of five!

You might remember Cindy and John from our Real Couple of the Year wedding photography contest in February. They were our winners, and we are so happy for them!

Cindy and John are a fantastic couple, and we are so glad that we were able to squeeze their engagement shoot in last weekend (even as the weather conspired against us). Cindy just got back from her deployment, and John is about to leave on his deployment, so it wasn’t hard to catch the joy they feel being around each other!

(I think that might go down in history as my all-time favorite jump shot. John, you are my hero!)

I love this shot of Cindy looking at John:

Piggyback rides are good. But let’s not talk about what happened when John jumped on for a ride. That didn’t end quite so well. :P

And totally mandatory for me at each engagement shoot–a detail shot of snuggling with a little bit of hazy post-processing.

Cindy and John, we are so excited for your wedding and look forward to photographing you again–thanks for being so fun to work with! With such a cute couple in such amazing places (the Air Force Academy Chapel and the Cliff House in Manitou Springs), we know the results will be incredible! We wish John luck and safety on his deployment!
