My tummy’s too fat with love.
Will, after I hugged him. Although I think this quote is perfect for any number of situations. Pregnancy, for one. After eating too many cookies, for another. And just a general state of pudginess.
Disclaimer for family members and close friends: in December I’ll be posting pictures of lots of projects–things I’m making for swaps, things I’m making for Christmas gifts for family and friends, and a few projects that I’ll be keeping. If you want to be 100% surprised by your gift, turn around now and don’t come back until Dec 26th. 😛 If you keep reading during the month of December, it’s at your own risk, but I do promise not to say what any particular project is for…so you could be looking at your gift, but you could also be looking at a swap item, a gift for someone else, or even something just for us. 🙂 Now that the December admin is over, here’s what I stole a few hours to work on today: At 9 inches high, The Cat in the Hat is the most ambitious free motion stitching / embroidery / applique / thread painting project I’ve attempted. He was worth devoting my precious preschool hours to!
Today I am the featured quilter on Gen X Quilters! To any new readers–welcome! Please leave a note–I love them, and always try to respond! I hope you’ll stop back often! To celebrate, I’m having a little give-away of one of my current favorite things: an It’s a Hoot charm pack! (I love them SO much that even though I bought an extra for this give-away I’m having a very hard time letting it go!) There are two ways to enter (CONTEST CLOSED): 1) Leave a comment 2) Post about this give-away on your blog or if you have a sidebar on your blog with links to other blogs, you can include mine (this is worth a whopping three entries) UPDATE: We have a winner of the It’s a Hoot charm pack! I assigned every entry a number (for people that either blogged about the contest or added this site to their sidebar they received 3 extra numbers) and then asked Will to pick a number between 1 and 81. He picked 8, so Elizabeth is our winner!

Yippee, thank you so much Tracy! 8 is officially my new favorite number. Can’t wait to get stitchy with some It’s a Hoot! 🙂 I’m a little worried about Santa and Will this year. He doesn’t seem to be buying that he visited with Santa earlier this week, but he can’t articulate his concerns/doubts, either. I’m not sure whether to do some cool magical elf visits and push it, or whether we should play it cool and hope to skate through the year Truth-free. Being out of town for Thanksgiving really threw me off. It’s already December 2nd (a mom at preschool today told me it was ‘only’ December 2nd—don’t worry—I gave her the appropriate ‘what planet are you from?!’ look) and we aren’t anywhere near celebrating. No tree, no decorations…we’re still digging out from the suitcases and general ‘we left in a rush’ mayhem. I had awesome plans to make an advent calendar, but the special felt I ordered somehow disappeared last week. I LOVE Christmas, and I hate that it’s so short. Three and a half weeks is just not enough time for all I want to do! And since I’m working this year (last year I cut things off early, but this year I have two weddings the week of Christmas and I’m not saying no to any portrait shoots that come my way) it leaves even less time for jolly. I feel badly because I am very aware that my clever little boy might not have many magical years left. But I’m going to try to chill out and not rob the season of its joy in my effort to stress out about maximizing the month. We’ll get our tree when we get it, we’ll decorate when we get to it, and we’ll do some crafts and baking. Not as much as in my dreams, but however much we do, it will be the perfect amount. “Mom! I see a reindeer!” Will shouted. I looked up and saw a giant deer running along our house, just outside our fenceline—about 10 feet from our windows. He met up in the grassy field just on the other side of the driveway with two others, including one with a huge full set of antlers (the others had much smaller antlers). Will asked if we could take them carrots. I’m glad to see that living in Colorado hasn’t rubbed off on him too badly, or he would have asked to take them out and mount them on the wall! 😛 When we left for Seattle 11 days ago, I had a baby who crawled but in a limited way. She’d go a few feet, but that was about it. When I got home last night, I had a MOBILE baby. And worse, as we discovered minutes after putting her in her crib for the night…a baby who could and would fully pull up. Will did all these things at 6 months, so the fact that I’ve enjoyed 4 more months of relative ease is not lost on me…but dang it sucks to come home with a pressing need to baby proof! |

sohobutterfly - Wowza, great-fantastic-amazing job. I just picked up some Dr. Seuss fabric yesterday to make a birthday quilt for a special little boy. I love it, so fun to quilt with!!
Melissa - Super awesome! Wow. I don’t think the good doctor himself could have done a better job creating that cat!
Meagan - I LOVE all the free motion sewing you’ve been doing. I’d love to try it, do you have a tutorial you used, or maybe some hints you could pass on?
Thanks!!
Brooke - I love this! You must have a lot of patience…I’m not sure I could pull it off. Also, what’s thread painting? I haven’t heard of that before.
